About this story

Every single night, Moon rises over the sleeping world and glows her soft silver light — but lately, Moon sighs. One small, sleepy sigh, three nights in a row, so quiet that almost nobody hears it. Almost nobody. But Sparkle, the smallest star in the sky, hears — and discovers the reason: Moon's birthday is coming, and nobody has ever celebrated it. So the stars plan the best surprise party the sky has ever seen. Dash the comet races to every planet: Mercury zips laps of joy, Venus brings her shimmer, Mars kicks up confetti, Jupiter offers his Great Red Spot as a dance floor, Saturn brings her finest ribbons, and frosty Uranus and Neptune bring the iciest treats. There's just one problem: Dash forgot someone small, far away, and left out. A warm, glowing story about noticing the quiet ones — and including everyone.

  • Comet — a ball of ice and dust that streaks across the sky with a glowing tail
  • Planet — a large world that circles the sun
  • Solar system — the sun and everything that circles it
  • Shimmer — a soft, wavering shine
  • Confetti — tiny pieces thrown in celebration
  • Sigh — a long, slow breath that shows how you feel
  • Frosty — icy cold
  • Celebrate — to do something joyful for a special day

What Parents Say

Families sharing their experiences with our books and family safety tools.

After reading this, my daughter started asking about how lighthouses work and we ended up looking up videos together. Anything that gets her that curious is a win in my book.
Priya K.Book · The Lighthouse of Bright Minds
The rhythm of this book is so soothing. It's become our Sunday-morning read. The river metaphor opened up a real conversation about listening to nature with my kids.
Sofia L.Book · The Day We Listened to the River
A beautiful, quiet story. On high-energy days my 6-year-old can't sit through it, but on calm evenings it's perfect. The language is genuinely lovely.
