About this story
One sunny morning, Mira walks down her street and notices something: many neighbors have sad faces and droopy shoulders. And suddenly she has a wonderful idea — what if she could collect smiles, just like people collect stamps or stickers? She finds a small notebook with a bright yellow cover and writes on the front: My Smile Collection. Then she begins: a big friendly wave to the neighbor in the garden (her first smile collected!), a heartfelt compliment to a friend showing a drawing ('Your drawing is amazing! I love the colors you used!'), and a patient sit-down beside a grumpy boy sitting alone, arms crossed — a shiny sticker, offered gently, until his frown disappears and he laughs. Day after day, the collection grows. A warm, simple story about noticing sadness and doing something about it, one person at a time.

What Parents Say
Families sharing their experiences with our books and family safety tools.
After reading this, my daughter started asking about how lighthouses work and we ended up looking up videos together. Anything that gets her that curious is a win in my book.
The rhythm of this book is so soothing. It's become our Sunday-morning read. The river metaphor opened up a real conversation about listening to nature with my kids.
A beautiful, quiet story. On high-energy days my 6-year-old can't sit through it, but on calm evenings it's perfect. The language is genuinely lovely.
