About this story
Behind the schoolyard, four friends — Maya, Leo, Sophie, and Kai — search for hidden treasures, and today feels special. Past the old fence, Sophie pushes aside leafy branches and gasps: a rusty gate stands hidden beneath thick twisting vines, decorated with strange symbols, ancient, as if it had been waiting forever. Maya touches it gently and it swings open all by itself, spilling golden light. Inside waits a garden unlike any they've seen — and it is fast asleep: gray soil, drooping stems with no flowers, bare branches, everything waiting for something to bring it back to life. Then a gentle voice whispers through the leaves: 'Welcome, young gardeners. Make me bloom with your skills, and I will teach you wisdom.' The first sign glows golden: CONFIDENCE — above a patch of especially tough, cracked soil, with a basket of seeds. 'These seeds will never sprout here,' the boys worry. But Maya takes a deep breath, kneels, and says bravely: 'I believe these seeds can grow.' And tiny green shoots burst through the hard ground. A chapter-quest about a garden that grows from skills.

What Parents Say
Families sharing their experiences with our books and family safety tools.
After reading this, my daughter started asking about how lighthouses work and we ended up looking up videos together. Anything that gets her that curious is a win in my book.
The rhythm of this book is so soothing. It's become our Sunday-morning read. The river metaphor opened up a real conversation about listening to nature with my kids.
A beautiful, quiet story. On high-energy days my 6-year-old can't sit through it, but on calm evenings it's perfect. The language is genuinely lovely.
