About this story

Mia, her brother Leo, and their dog Biscuit climb the rainbow bridge and find Cloudlandia in trouble: the rainbow's colors are disappearing, drip by drip, and grumbly Nimbus blames the zooming Wind. Zippy Cirrus, the fastest cloud in the sky, helps the children hunt the seven lost color drops — red and orange wobbling at Sunset Peak, yellow and green under a ticklish cloud-sheep, blue and indigo hiding in the echoing cave, and the last deep violet kept safe by the Moon, 'for kind hands only.' And when Wind finally appears, he isn't a villain at all: he just wanted someone to play with. A sky-high adventure about friendship, teamwork, and including the lonely one.

  • Cumulus — a big, fluffy, puffy cloud
  • Cirrus — a thin, wispy cloud high in the sky
  • Nimbus — a dark gray rain cloud
  • Dewdrop — a tiny drop of morning water
  • Echo — a sound that bounces back to you
  • Violet — a deep, soft shade of purple
  • Graze — to munch on grass, like the cloud-sheep
  • Sheepish — a little embarrassed about something you did

What Parents Say

Families sharing their experiences with our books and family safety tools.

After reading this, my daughter started asking about how lighthouses work and we ended up looking up videos together. Anything that gets her that curious is a win in my book.
Priya K.Book · The Lighthouse of Bright Minds
The rhythm of this book is so soothing. It's become our Sunday-morning read. The river metaphor opened up a real conversation about listening to nature with my kids.
Sofia L.Book · The Day We Listened to the River
A beautiful, quiet story. On high-energy days my 6-year-old can't sit through it, but on calm evenings it's perfect. The language is genuinely lovely.
