About this story
Ava is a curious nine-year-old who loves science more than anything in the whole wide world, carrying a small notebook filled with interesting questions, careful drawings, and wonderful ideas. Then one hot summer day, something strange happens: the town's electricity keeps flickering off and on, lights buzzing and blinking like fireflies. 'Why does this keep happening?' Ava asks. Her dad sighs: the old power plant is really struggling. That night, Ava stands at her bedroom window watching the golden sunset — 'The sun gives us so much wonderful light every single day!' — and a big, brilliant idea sparks: 'What if our whole town could use the sun's amazing power instead of the old plant?' The very next morning she runs to the school library and researches solar energy until best friend Marcus finds her buried in towers of books. 'That sounds really cool, Ava, but how would we ever make that happen? We're just kids.' Ava's answer — and her notebook — are about to prove that kids with questions can move a whole town toward the sun.
